Two medical students of Tamil Nadu drown in Arabian Sea at Gokarna in coastal Karnataka

Two students of SRM Medical College at Tiruchirappali in Tamil Nadu, drowned in the Arabian Sea, at Gokarna in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, on April 24, according to police.
Police gave the names of the deceased as Kanimozhi and Hinduja, both aged 23 years. They were final-year MBBS students. They drowned around 5.30 p.m.
The deceased were part of a 23-member group of students who were on a tour of Dandeli-Gokarna and Murdeshwara in Uttara Kannada after completing their final examination. The tour was arranged by Vetri Tours and Travels, Chennai.
The students had arrived in Gokarna after visiting Dandeli and Vibhuti Falls, near Yana. The two students were washed away while watching the sunset at Jatayu Tirtha, near the Kudle beach in Gokarna.
A local person, Maniraju, who went to rescue the students was also caught in the waves. Immediately, local people on a boat brought the trio to the shore and shifted them to the government hospital in Gokarna. While Maniraju survived, Kanimozhi and Hinduja could not be saved.
Their bodies were shifted to the mortuary in the district hospital at Karwar.
Police have registered a case against the tour guide Gandhi (23) of Iramattur, Dharmapuri district, Tamil Nadu, and Vetri Selvan (29), owner of the tour agency for negligence. They were booked under Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the BNS.
