Two Manipuri cabin crew members from Air India crash in Gujarat; fate unknown, families await official confirmation.
Two of the 10 cabin crew members onboard the Air India flight that crashed in Gujarat on Thursday (June 12, 2025) were from conflict-affected Manipur.
The fate of both women— Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma, 22, and Lamnunthem Singson, 28— remained unknown as relatives and neighbours gathered at their residences, awaiting official confirmation about their condition.
Ms. Sharma hails from Thoubal district in the Imphal Valley, while Ms. Singson’s family has been residing in the Kuki-majority Kangpokpi district following their displacement from Imphal after the ethnic violence erupted in May 2023.
“We have come to know from media reports that at least 40 people have survived the crash. We hope the crew members are among the survivors,” a member of the Sharma family said.
