The temple authorities prepared a gundam (fire path) for the ‘pookuzhi’ (fire walk) festival. Firewood was burnt to lay the fire path. The fire walk ceremony commenced after the slippery pole climbing event.
Enthusiastic youth made an attempt to climb the slippery pole erected in front of the temple. An eucalyptus tree was polished to create a smooth outer surface of the pole. The devotees witnessed the event and cheered the youth.
The devotees entered the fire path amidst the chanting. They entered the fire path one after the other and prayed to the deity. A large number of police personnel were deployed for the safety and security of the devotees and to ensure the smooth conduct of the temple festival. Adequate arrangements were made for the devotees.
