Tenders invited for a 1,200 TPD waste-to-energy plant at Vellalore to process waste from Coimbatore and Tiruppur.
The Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) Department has invited tenders for the development and operation of a waste-to-energy (WtE) facility with a scientific landfill at the Vellalore dump yard to process 1,200 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day, generated in Coimbatore and Tiruppur city municipal Corporations.
The project will be implemented on a cluster basis through a public–private partnership under the design–build–finance–operate–transfer (DBFOT) model. Coimbatore Corporation has been designated as the lead urban local body to undertake the bidding process and enter into the concession agreement with the selected concessionaire.
According to tender documents, the facility will be developed on about 50 acres at Vellalore. The project will include a waste-to-energy plant capable of processing 1,200 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day and generating about 20 MW of power. Pre-processing facilities with a minimum capacity of 1,550 tonnes per day and a scientific landfill will also form part of the project.
The concession period will be 30 years from the appointed date, including the period for construction as well as operation and maintenance of the facility.
Municipal solid waste from Coimbatore and Tiruppur Corporations will be transported to the plant by the respective urban local bodies.
Electricity generated from the plant will be sold to the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited through a power purchase agreement.
