Experts gather at a seminar hosted by Assam Rifles to discuss evolving security challenges in Northeast India.
The Assam Rifles, in association with the United Service Institution of India (USI), held a Seminar in New Delhi on Monday (March 9, 2026) on the theme ‘Security Challenges to the North East: Assessment & Way Forward’.
The seminar was held at the Major General Samir Sinha Auditorium at USI and brought together senior military officers, security experts, academics and media representatives to deliberate on the evolving security landscape in the region.
Lt. Gen Rajiv Ghai attended as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address, sharing his perspectives on the changing security dynamics in the North East region. Senior officers from the Indian Army and Assam Rifles were also present.
Director General Assam Rifles Lt. Gen Vikas Lakhera and Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh (Retd), Director of the USI, addressed the gathering and highlighted key agenda points related to the seminar’s theme. They underscored the need for a comprehensive and coordinated approach to address emerging security challenges in the Northeast.
Experts noted that the security situation in the region has improved significantly over the years due to sustained efforts by security forces, civil administration and political leadership. However, they emphasised that evolving challenges require constant review and coordinated responses.
Discussions during the seminar focused on issues such as border management, instability in the eastern neighbourhood and the growing influence of social media in shaping the security environment.
