Describing the international status accorded to Madurai Airport as a good news, Virudhunagar MP B. Manickam Tagore has exuded hope that this development will increase international flight connectivity from Madurai.
In a social media post, Mr. Tagore, who is also the Chairperson of Madurai Airport Advisory Committee, said a long-felt demand, for which MPs from southern districts had raised their voice, had been fulfilled. “This move does not have any financial burden (on the Centre),” said the Congress MP, under whose constituency the airport falls.
Despite being operational 24x7, Madurai Airport was lacking in adequate international air connectivity, he said. He thanked Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu for fulfilling the demand.
Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan has expressed happiness over his efforts in raising the demand for international status to Madurai Airport turning a reality. In his social media post, Mr. Venkatesan said his second speech in the Lok Sabha after getting elected in 2019 was on this very demand.
“The demand that has been raised for seven years has won today,” he said.
Upgradation of Madurai Airport into an international airport would significantly accelerate growth of trade, industry, exports and tourism in southern districts, said president of Agri and All Trade Chamber S.Rethinavelu.
