Sunil Kumar urges event claimants to cover Udupi Kambala costs, criticizing politicization of the traditional festival.
V. Sunil Kumar, former Minister and Karkala MLA, said those claiming that the Udupi Kambala event is being organised by the district administration should bear the complete cost of hosting the event.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Kambala Kare (slush track) of the Koti-Chennayya Udupi Jodu Kare Kambala at Athrady in 80-Badagabettu village, near Manipal, on February 28. People who want the district in-charge Minister to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony should answer how issues in the district have been addressed so far. They should also reveal the amount of funds the district administration has released for the event.
Mr. Kumar said that the Udupi Kambala has taken shape this year owing to the strenuous efforts of Gurme Suresh Shetty, local MLA. Unfortunately, organising the event is being politicised, he lamented.
The Karkala MLA further stated that the Miyar Kambala in Karkala has been organised for the last 20 years under his (Mr. Kumar) leadership and everyone, cutting across party lines, have been supporting it.
Mr. Kumar said all the legislators of the district performed the muhoorta for the Kambala Kare at Badagabettu. “This is the official Muhoorta as the Daivaradhane associated with kambala has a special significance in the region,” he said.
