Governor R.N. Ravi presides over Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University convocation, awarding degrees to 16,571 graduates.
Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Manindra Mohan Shrivastava on Saturday urged practitioners of law to conscientiously avoid unnecessary delays in legal proceedings.
“Timely resolution of cases is vital to ensure that justice is accessible and effective. Delays erode public confidence in the legal system and can cause genuine harm to the parties involved in the litigation,” he said, addressing graduates at the 15th convocation of the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University.
On duties of lawyers towards their clients, he said lawyers must zealously represent their clients’ interests, ensuring that their rights are protected and that they receive a fair hearing. However, this advocacy must be exercised within ethical boundaries-never resorting to deception, coercion, or unfair tactics. Effective advocacy involves convincing arguments, thorough preparation, and a genuine pursuit of justice, he added.
Governor R.N. Ravi, who is also Chancellor of the University, presided over the convocation and presented the certificates and medals to graduates. A total of 16,571 UG and PG students received their degree certificates, and 80 people, including 38 PhD holders, were presented with medals on Saturday.
Law Secretary S. George Alexander said that the University, established in 1997, had 27 affiliated law colleges under its purview. The University that offered five UG and 13 PG courses had plans to construct a hostel for men.
