New roof shelters at Kumaran Kundram temples enhance facilities for devotees and traders, promoting spirituality across faiths in Chennai.
The newly constructed roof shelters for devotees were inaugurated at Kumaran Kundram in Chromepet recently (February 22, 2026), with MSME Minister T. M. Anbarasan asserting that the DMK government was “not against spirituality” and had facilitated the consecration of thousands of temples in recent years.
The shelters, built in front of Sri Balasubramania Swamy Temple and Prasanna Yoga Anjaneyar Temple, were executed using ₹45 lakh from the Member of Legislative Assembly Constituency Development Scheme (MLACDS) funds of Pallavaram DMK MLA E. Karunanidhi.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Anbarasan said a similar facility costing ₹1 crore for devotees of Aadhi Vyadhihara Anjaneyar Temple at Nanganallur would be inaugurated shortly.
“Over 4,500 temples have been consecrated (kumbhabhishekam) in the last five years. The DMK government is not against spirituality,” he said.
Mr. Karunanidhi said roof shelters were being provided in around 10 temples in the Pallavaram constituency. Five had been completed and the remaining works were under way. “The total cost, including my personal contribution, is around ₹1.2 crore,” he said.
Besides Kumaran Kundram, works have been completed at four temples in the constituency, with projects under way at five more temple in Anakkaputhur, Nemilicherry, Chengaicherry, Ganapathypuram, and Radha Nagar.
