NPDCL clocks highest-ever peak power demand on Saturday
HYDERABAD
The Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGNPDCL) has clocked the highest-ever peak demand of power in its history when it reached 6,057 megawatt at 10.23 am on Saturday (February 28), out of the total demand of about 16,600 MW registered in the State around the same time.
According to Chairman and Managing Director of the Northern Discom K. Varun Reddy, the highest peak demand registered in the Discom was on March 11 last year, when it clocked 5,816 MW. There is a jump of over 240 MW in the highest ever peak demand, as recorded on Saturday, compared to the previous highest.
The CMD explained that advance planning and prompt measures were undertaken to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply. He said special focus was laid on strengthening the infrastructure. As part of this 35 new 33/11 kV substations were charged, 366 additional power transformers were installed and capacity enhancement of 7,600 transformers was completed.
Further, eight overloaded 33 kV feeders were bifurcated, 1,200 km of alternate 33 kV lines were laid and 392 capacitor banks were installed to reduce the low voltage issues. Keeping the summer season in view, a special action plan has been readied.
Works such as transformer maintenance, line patrolling, rectification of loose line connections and stocking of required material were intensified. Emergency response teams have been kept ready in every division and a special monitoring system has been initiated for prompt grievance redressal. He reiterated that irrespective of the rise in demand, uninterrupted power supply would be ensured.
