Telangana Mahila Congress appoints new chief; TPCC chief announces 20% women’s representation in upcoming government posts.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief and MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was considering offering at least 20% of chairperson posts in various corporations and government agencies to women in the next phase of appointments.
He exuded confidence that 51 women would enter the Telangana Legislative Assembly in the next general elections considering efforts towards implementing 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies.
Congress senior leader and former Warangal Mayor Errabelli Swarna formally assumed charge as the Telangana Mahila Congress president at a ceremony held at Gandhi Bhavan’s Prakasham Hall. The programme was attended by All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba and several senior women leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud said that several Congress women activists had already been appointed as directors in various bodies, while six leaders had been offered District Congress Committee (DCC) president posts.
He also highlighted various initiatives being implemented by the Congress government in the State, including the Maha Lakshmi scheme, which provides free bus travel for women.
Congratulating Ms. Errabelli Swarna on taking charge, he urged Mahila Congress workers to take party programmes to the doorstep of every household under her leadership.
