
Cordon and search operations held in Coimbatore in view of Assembly election

Coimbatore police conduct search operations ahead of Assembly elections to ensure public safety and prevent anti-social activities.
The Coimbatore City Police conducted cordon and search operations in different parts of the city on Sunday (March 15, 2026) in view of the State Assembly elections.
The exercise was carried out to maintain law and order, suppress activities of anti-social elements and history-sheeters and to instil a sense of security among the public.
Based on the instructions of City Police Commissioner N. Kannan, Deputy Commissioners of Police G. Karthikeyan (Coimbatore South) and N. Devanathan (North) led the exercise, supported by four Assistant Commissioners, 18 Inspectors, 28 Sub-Inspectors, 304 police personnel and 40 traffic police personnel.
As many as 110 personnel from Coimbatore City Armed Reserve and 30 male and 30 female personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force were involved in the exercise, which was conducted within the jurisdictions of Kattoor, Race Course, Peelamedu, Saravanampatti, Ramanathapuram, Podanur, Kuniyamuthur and Sundarapuram police stations.
They carried out surprise inspections in crowded places such as bus stands and railway stations, warehouses of parcel services, cargo vehicles and potential hideouts of suspects. The police arrested three persons, who were ordered not to stay in Coimbatore city under Section 51-A of the Madras City Police Act 1888 but remained in the city. One absconding accused listed as ‘A’ category rowdy and 21 individuals, including college students, who were found with a total of 835 grams of ganja were apprehended.
The police seized 14 two-wheelers found in suspicious circumstances and arrested a man with 48 Kerala State lottery tickets at a lodge. One person was caught with 70 kg of ration rice at B.K. Pudur near Kuniyamuthur. A total of 127 bottles of liquor were seized from a person who arrived from Maharashtra during inspections at the Coimbatore railway station. The police collected fingerprints from 15 suspected individuals and sent them to the fingerprint bureau for comparisons.
