SGOU to launch global digital library with CUSAT collaboration

SGOU to launch global digital library with CUSAT collaboration

SGOU partners with CUSAT to launch a global digital library, enhancing access to knowledge resources for students and researchers.

In a move to globalise its academic services, Sreenarayana Guru Open University (SGOU) is set to establish a state-of-the-art public digital library accessible round the clock from anywhere in the world. The project, designed to benefit students, researchers, and the general public alike, will be formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the university and CUSAT’s Cusatech Foundation on March 16. Developed on a ‘Software as a Service’ (SaaS) model, the digital library aims to provide seamless access to vast knowledge resources, particularly for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The digital repository will host an extensive collection of academic journals, theses, lecture notes, and study material tailored for various competitive examinations. A standout feature of the initiative is the digital preservation of the works of Sree Narayana Guru alongside other significant historical documents, making them accessible to a global audience. Slated for completion within a year, the project is expected to significantly bolster the university’s international academic footprint.

The official signing ceremony will take place at the CUSAT Vice-Chancellor’s chamber, where CUSAT Registrar Prof. Arun A.U. and SNGOU Registrar Prof. Abhilash Babu will execute the agreement. The project is being funded through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of Cochin Shipyard Limited, with the development and implementation overseen by the Cusatech Foundation. High-ranking officials from Cochin Shipyard and syndicate members from both universities are expected to attend the event.

Future phases of the project envision integrating over 2,000 libraries under the Kerala Library Council, transforming them into digital corridors equipped with resources for competitive exam aspirants. SNGOU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaganathy Raj V.P. said that the completion of this project will open a new window of knowledge for millions in Kerala and across the globe, reinforcing the university’s mission to empower underprivileged students through uninterrupted access to information.
