LPG crunch reaches Bengaluru clubs; banquets, takeaways curtailed

Bengaluru clubs face LPG shortages, prompting menu cuts and service restrictions to conserve gas amid geopolitical tensions.

The ongoing conflict in West Asia and its effect on LPG supply have now hit clubs in Bengaluru, with many sending out circulars to members about shortened menus and restricted guest entries.
These decisions have come in view of the uncertainty in LPG supply following the invocation of the Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1981, regulating the distribution of cooking gas and natural gas. The clubs are taking these steps to conserve LPG for longer runs so that they do not reach the brink of exhausting the available supply.
Bowring Institute, Bangalore Club, and Bangalore Golf Association (BGA) have sent out similar circulars suspending certain services, while some, like Koramangala Club, have stopped taking bookings for major parties, prioritising services for previously booked events.
Recently, the Bowring Institute sent out a circular to its members stating that the institute will rationalise certain food service operations by suspending bulk private food preparations, all banquets, and takeaway orders, apart from restricting entry of guests of members or associates.
Even before the Bowring Institute, the BGA had sent out a circular on March 11 imposing similar restrictions, which came into effect from March 12.
