Tamil Nadu rains: School holiday announced in Madurai, Tiruchi, several other districts on Friday

District Collectors in Tamil Nadu declare holidays for schools due to heavy rains in various districts on December 13, 2024.
As rains continue to lash parts of Tamil Nadu on Friday (December 13, 2024), District Collectors of Madurai and Mayiladuthurai, among others, have declared a holiday for schools.
Madurai Collector M.S. Sangeetha announced holiday for schools in the early hours of the day, as did Mayiladuthurai district collector A.P. Mahabharathi, in view of the heavy rains.
The Tiruvallur Collector said that schools and colleges would function as usual in the district. However, headmasters can take a call on declaring holiday if there is water stagnation, said the Collector.
Southern parts of the State had received heavy rainfall on Thursday (December 12, 2024). Tourists stayed indoors in Kodaikanal and the tourist spots were deserted.
Holiday was also declared for schools and colleges in Tiruchi and Thanjavur districts today. Schools are to remain closed in Pudukottai and Karur districts.
Schools and colleges in Chennai will function as usual as some parts of the city and its surrounding areas only received light showers on an otherwise overcast Friday morning.
Minister A. Namassivayam of the Union Territory of Puducherry announced that all schools and colleges in Karaikal and Puducherry would not function on Friday.
