The Global Heritage Music and Arts Fest 2024 was inaugurated in the city on Friday. The Nataka Kala Vendhar Award was presented to actor Y. Gee. Mahendra on the occasion. Vijaya Thayanban, Member Secretary of the Tamilnadu Eyal Isai Nadaga Mandram, who inaugurated the music and arts festival organised by Carnatica and Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, presented the award that has been instituted in the memory of Vasantha Ramachander.
Ms. Thayanban said Mr. Mahendra was a born actor and an all-round artist who thoroughly deserved the award. She also felicitated violin artist V.V. Subrahmanyam.
N. Kumar, chairman, group corporation board, The Sanmar Group, said he had known Mr. Mahendra since childhood as they were both schoolmates. He also appreciated Carnatica and Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha for organising the festival since 2015 and encouraging several budding artists.
Cleveland V.V. Sundaram said while music festivals had reduced drastically since the COVID-19 lockdowns and also due to want of sponsors, the Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, which is one of the oldest sabhas in the city, has been continuously organising several music and arts festivals in the city. Mr. Mahendra thanked the organisers and said the award would motivate him to act in more dramas.
