Russia-Ukraine crisis news: As per new satellite images, several units of Russian troops have occupied new grounds close to the Ukraine border in Belarus and western Russia.
Several units of Russian troops occupied new grounds close to the Ukraine border in Belarus and western Russia on Tuesday, even as the US, European Union countries and Britain announced sanctions on Russia.
While new deployments are seen at some locations, visual evidence indicates that preparations for arrival of new troops are also underway at some places. Recent satellite images provided by space technology firm Maxar Technologies show new positions and movement of additional logistics and supplies in the region over the past 24 hours. Several new military locations have been identified in the areas close to Belgorod in Russia.
In Belarus, a small empty airfield less than 40 km north of the border with Ukraine was empty as per satellite images from a few weeks back.
However, the latest pictures captured on February 22 show the small airfield of the VD Bolshoy Bokov aerodrome buzzing with military activity.
The new deployment consists of more than 100 vehicles and dozens of shelters near Mozyr in southern Belarus.
In western Russia too, new deployments have been seen. Troops and equipment are stationed in the rural areas southwest of Belgorod, less than 20 km northwest of the border with Ukraine.
A new field hospital has been set up to support the military garrison on the western outskirts of Belgorod, according to satellite pictures collected on February 21.
