Ponniyin Selvan Part 2 will release 6 to 9 months after part 1’s release, says Mani Ratnam

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the release of Mani Ratnam’s Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan. It is one of the most anticipated films of 2022. The first part of the two-film franchise is all geared up for a grand release on September 30. At a press conference held in Chennai now, director Mani Ratnam opened up about the second part of the film. . The second part is expected to hit the theatres in a few months.

At the press conference of Ponniyin Selvan held in Chennai on September 17, Mani Ratnam was asked about the film's second part and its release date. The director answered that Ponniyin Selvan Part 2 will release 6 to 9 months after part 1’s release. Currently, the makers of the film are busy in promotions ahead of the release. Meanwhile, according to reports, the digital streaming rights of Ponniyin Selvan have been sold for a mammoth sum of Rs 125 crore. This is indeed a huge deal for the film that has been mounted on a massive budget. Similarly, the satellite rights have been sold for a massive price to Sun TV. The audio and trailer launch will be aired on the channel a week before the grand release.

Recently, the trailer and audio launch of Ponniyin Selvan took place at Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth attended the launch as chief guests.

Ponniyin Selvan is touted to be a potential game-changer for the Tamil film industry. The two-part franchise has been shot on a budget of Rs 500 crore. Its stellar cast is headlined by Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Lal, and Sobhita Dhulipala, among others. Its soundtrack has been composed by AR Rahman. The film's cinematography has been handled by Ravi Varman. It will be distributed in Tamil Nadu by Red Giant Movies. Ponniyin Selvan will become the first Tamil movie to release in IMAX when it opens in theatres on September 30.

This will be Mani Ratnam's first release after the crime drama Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, which hit the screens in 2018 and emerged as a success. It remains to be seen whether the ace filmmaker is able to score another hit with his magnum opus.
