Amid Dhurandhar buzz, Imran Khan says won't play hairy angry men covered in blood

Actor Imran Khan opened up in a Reddit Ask Me Anything about Bollywood's changing trends, his film choices, and why he is steering clear of hyper-violent roles amid Dhurandhar hype.
Actor Imran Khan has sparked conversation with his remarks during a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), where he said he has “no interest in playing a hairy angry man covered in blood”. The comment comes amid the growing popularity of hyper-masculine, violent protagonists in films like Dhurandhar.
Responding to a fan who urged him to avoid “macho roles”, Imran said the genre is already “generously represented”. His statement quickly drew attention online, with some users speculating whether it alluded to recent films like Animal or big-scale action entertainers, though the actor did not name any project directly.
During the AMA, Imran also addressed the broader shift in storytelling. He noted that many films today tend to glorify aggression and problematic behaviour. “There’s a significant difference between portraying violence and validating it,” he wrote, adding that he finds the current trend “disturbing”.
He further said his own sensibilities would not allow him to be part of narratives that appear to endorse such behaviour, describing them as “irresponsible”.
Imran rose to prominence with Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na but stepped away from acting after his last release in 2015. In his AMA introduction, he referred to himself as “the guy” from his earlier films who “ghosted everyone”, inviting fans to ask about his break and career choices.
The session marked a rare direct interaction with audiences, offering insight into both his hiatus and evolving perspective on cinema.
