Salem West MLA stages dharna against Corporation officials for neglecting constituency demands, withdraws protest after talks.
Salem West MLA R. Arul from Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) staged a dharna at Salem Corporation office against corporation officials on Monday (June 9, 2025).
Mr. Arul claimed that he gave 10 long-pending demands of the Salem West Assembly constituency to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and some of those demands were fulfilled. The Salem Corporation officials laid roads for ₹94 lakh near Perumal Malai instead of the girivalam path, he stated.
While approaching the Corporation officials regarding the demands of the people, they did not give due importance and disrespected him, Mr. Arul alleged.
He went on to charge that the wards that come under the Salem West constituency are omitted by the Corporation officials and DMK councillors do not allow works to be done in the MLA fund. Citing these, the PMK MLA staged a dharna.
After talks held by the Corporation officials, the MLA withdrew his protest after 30 minutes. Mr. Arul claimed his protest would continue if his demands are not met.

“Judicial time is a valuable public resource. Every frivolous or misconceived invocation of constitutional jurisdiction results in diversion of time from genuinely deserving litigants,” said the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court while imposing a cost of ₹50,000 on a man from Theni district who filed a petition with an unusual prayer: permission to conduct daily protests till the ‘World War’ ends.
