Minister Seethakka pledges to enhance RGUKT Basar with improved amenities and academic excellence, addressing student concerns.

Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Women and Child Welfare Seethakka has said the State government is steadfast in its commitment to strengthen the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) at Basar in Nirmal district.

The government will take all measures to improve amenities, ensure quality education and foster academic excellence in RGUKT established in the temple town of Basar, the abode of Goddess Gnana Saraswati, by the then government in 2008, she said, announcing ₹1 crore for various development works on the RGUKT campus.

She was speaking at an interactive session with the students of RGUKT, the premier institute offering a six-year integrated course leading to a B.Tech Degree, in Basar on Friday. The institute, popularly known as Basar IIIT, was set up to mainly serve the rural students and graduate them with a B.Tech Degree.

During the interaction, the students highlighted their long-pending issues such as lack of adequate faculty members and infrastructure facilities, among other issues. They urged the minister to take requisite measures to change the mess contractor, increase the number of messes on the campus and improve food quality.

Citing the overwhelming number of around 9,000 students residing on the campus, they sought better amenities, provision of laptops, Wi-Fi internet and upgradation of library, among other facilities.

The minister asked the officials to ensure better amenities and quality food for students as per the prescribed menu on the RGUKT campus.

Earlier, Collector Abhilasha Abhinav and RGUKT vice-chancellor Prof. A. Govardhan apprised the Minister of the measures taken by the university administration for the welfare of students.
