NRI asks Mumbai cab driver about SOS button in vehicle, he shows it doesn't work
India Today
A recent video filmed in Mumbai by an Indian-origin CEO has sparked concerns about the effectiveness of the SOS safety buttons installed in city cabs since 2015.
A Mumbai cab driver’s remarks about the in-built SOS button have started a debate after a video showed him claiming that authorities failed to respond promptly to distress alerts. The clip, recorded by Dubai-based real estate CEO Rohit Singh Rathaur, shows the driver demonstrating the effectiveness of the safety button.
In the video, Rathaur asks the driver about the purpose of the SOS button fitted inside the cab. The driver explains that it is meant for emergencies, particularly for women passengers.
However, he quickly undermines its credibility, claiming that pressing it repeatedly would not bring immediate help. “Na police ani hai na kuch (the police does not come)” he says, suggesting that neither the police nor any authority would respond promptly.
To support his claim, the driver recounts an incident where he allegedly pressed the button multiple times throughout the night “just for fun,” stating that no one contacted him until around 6 am. He then proceeds to press the button again to demonstrate what he describes as the system’s ineffectiveness.

Leon Panetta said Iran war was not an unexpected risk. He pointed out that for years, US security officials have known Iran could disrupt global oil supplies by blocking the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this was a well-known danger, but one that appears to have been overlooked in the current conflict.
