A minute-long ATC recording lays bare the confusion and urgency before a runway collision in New York. Controllers issued frantic warnings as a plane struck a vehicle, forcing a complete airport shutdown.
“Stop, stop, stop! Truck 1,” an air traffic controller can be heard shouting moments before a passenger plane struck a ground vehicle at a busy New York airport, an incident that has led to injuries and a full-scale emergency response.
Air Canada Flight 8646, carrying more than 100 passengers from Montreal-Trudeau International Airport, struck a fire truck while taxiing at La Guardia Airport after landing. The collision forced authorities to halt flight operations and divert incoming aircraft.
An audio clip that captured a conversation between air traffic controllers and pilots around the time of the accident revealed moments filled with frantic warnings, aborted landings, and controllers scrambling to prevent further movement on the affected runway.
The audio begins routinely, with clearance given to a ground unit: “Truck 1 and Company, cross 4 at Delta.”
Seconds later, urgency takes over.
“Stop, stop, stop, stop, truck 1, stop,” the controller is heard repeating, followed by, “Stop, truck 1, stop.”
