Kerala CM criticizes Central govt for neglect, highlights state's resilience and achievements despite lack of support.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday (April 21, 2025) launched a scathing attack on the Central government accusing it of “systematically neglecting” Kerala during critical times.
Inaugurating the LDF government’s fourth anniversary celebrations and Ente Keralam exhibition and marketing fair at Kalikadavu in Kasaragod, Mr. Vijayan said the Central government adopted a “completely negative stance” towards Kerala, refusing to extend necessary support during crisis, including natural disasters, Nipah, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The support we expected and deserved never came. In fact those who came forward to help us were discouraged. The Centre appeared more interested in watching Kerala collapse than in aiding its recovery,” he alleged.
Despite the Centre’s indifference, he said, Kerala had managed to stay afloat and even thrive owing to “the collective will of its people.’
“Unity among citizens and the government’s determination helped us navigate every crisis. The world look on with awe as we overcame adversity after adversity,” Mr. Vijayan said.
He pointed to tangible development outcomes – the nearing completion of the national highway, steady progress on the coastal and hill highways and successful implementation of GAIL pipeline project.
“Today, piped gas reaches homes, and social welfare pensions have been streamlined despite financial bottlenecks,” he noted.
