An AIADMK candidate, S. Thiruvikka, who was contesting for the post of Vice Chairperson of Karur district panchayat was allegedly abducted near Naganampatti in Dindigul district, when he was travelling along with the former Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar.
According to a complaint lodged at Vedasandur police station, Mr. Thiruvikka was allegedly abducted by DMK men who came in four cars while he was on his way from Dindigul to the polling station in Karur district. The “unidentified men” had damaged the glass of the car in which the AIADMK cadre were travelling.
Earlier, Mr. Thiruvikka had filed a petition at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the authorities to conduct the election under the supervision of a retired High Court or District Court judge, citing chances for malpractices. The Court had directed to film the election being held today (December 19) and to not publish the final result.
Over a year after the announcement on setting up the Tamil Diaspora Welfare Board, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has appointed chairperson and members to the Board named as Pulampeyar Tamizhar Nala Variyam.
Headed by Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, the Board is to have seven members including Arumugam Parasuraman from Mauritius, Mohammed Faizal from the U.K., Siddique Syed Meeran from the U.A.E., Caldwell Velnambi from North America, G.V. Ram from Singapore, A. Meeran from Mumbai and A. Pugazhgandhi from Chennai.
Establishment of the Board was announced in October 2021, with a budget allocation of ₹20 crore, including ₹8.10 crore for welfare schemes.
In a step to boost the infrastructure of government schools across Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the initiative of ‘Namma School Foundation’ at Chennai.
The Opposition Congress demanded that the government open the Gandhi Vatika Museum, depicting Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy and freedom struggle, built at a cost of ₹85 crore in Jaipur’s Central Park last year, during the Congress-led regime in Rajasthan. The museum has not been opened to the public, reportedly because of the administration’s engagements with the State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Pakistan coach Gary Kirsten stated that “not so great decision making” contributed to his side’s defeat to India in the Group-A T20 World Cup clash here on Sunday.
