Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi denies BJP allegations of links to Pakistan, calling it a political ploy in a press conference.
The Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, said on Wednesday (May 28, 2025) that he visited Pakistan only once 12 years ago and that the BJP was raking up the issue like a “C-grade Bollywood movie” that is going to “flop miserably”.
Hitting back, Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been accusing Mr. Gogoi of having links with the Pakistani establishment, said the Congress leader’s latest statement amounted to an admission that and “far more serious revelations would come up”.

Mr. Gogoi, who was appointed the Assam Congress chief on Monday, said Mr. Sarma was levelling such allegations to create doubts in the minds of the Congress leadership. He asked why the BJP government at the Centre had not taken action for the last 11 years if there was any wrongdoing. “What were the government and probe agencies doing,” the Assam Congress chief asked.
The Assam Chief Minister, who had alleged that Mr. Gogoi’s wife had links with Pakistani establishment, added that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was probing these “links” and the investigation report would be made public by September 10.
“Finally, Congress MP Shri Gaurav Gogoi has admitted that he visited Pakistan. But let us be very clear – this is just the beginning, not the end. What lies ahead is far more serious. There exists every reasonable ground, supported by credible inputs and documented information, to suggest that Shri Gogoi has maintained proximity with the Pakistani establishment,” Mr. Sarma said in a post on X.
The social media post was in response to an earlier press conference by Mr. Gogoi at the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) Akbar Road office.
