Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook’s name change to Meta on Thursday. However, the change resulted in a series of trolls online by netizens and even the microblogging giant, Twitter.

Social media was abuzz lately with the possible name change of the mega-conglomerate Facebook. So, when Mark Zuckerberg announced the change on Thursday, the internet exploded with trolls and memes. Facebook's name has been changed to Meta, and even micro-blogging site Twitter couldn't help but hop onto the trolling bandwagon. the only #META we acknowledge is this:https://t.co/HalSMZt8L5 BIG NEWS lol jk still Twitter #Facebook has changed its name to #MetaEveryone: pic.twitter.com/8jb00M9QcR Facebook after changing it's company name:#Meta #Metaverse pic.twitter.com/9uGonsMszL Facebook changes its name to #MetaLe Me: pic.twitter.com/D2HJ9AmYQy Mark Zuckerberg trying fixing Facebook:#Meta pic.twitter.com/eKSobjoIKe #Facebook become #MetaThen...MangoYeah pic.twitter.com/hokAS4NF3y Facebook introducing its new name and logo with same old purpose, to spy. #Meta pic.twitter.com/1ILlbWeBRc How to solve a business problem:Simply change the name #Meta pic.twitter.com/BfJGGPI2ZS Mark Zuckerberg after changing companies name from “Facebook" to “Meta” #META pic.twitter.com/4pjR1K1R3t Can't have problems with Facebook if the company isn't called Facebook #Meta pic.twitter.com/AdZvrD1bWi

Announcing the new name, Zuckerberg said, "Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started." It is being said that the name change has been initiated to distract the world from the plethora of criticisms from lawmakers and regulators over its market power, algorithmic decisions and the policing of abuses on its services. However, it's worth noting that Zuckerberg changed Facebook's corporate branding to Meta, and this means that the names of Facebook and suite of apps won't change.
