Ex-IG Ponn Manickavel alleges theft of ‘Parvathi idol’
The former Inspector General of Police, A.G. Ponn Manickavel has lodged a complaint of theft and misappropriation of a ‘Parvathi idol’ from Thiruppalanam village temple, with the Thiruvaiyaru police.
Disclosing this to the media here on March 27, Mr. Manickavel said that the idol was smuggled from Sri Abathsagayeswarar temple, Thiruppalanam, in Thanjavur district to USA and now displayed at Sothebys’ Auction House, New York for an auction price of ₹8 crores to start with.
Claiming that the Goddess idol and that of Natarajar were smuggled out of the country, he said that he had annexed a photograph of the idols taken in the year 1957 at Thiruppalanam along with his complaint submitted with the Thiruvaiyaru police.

Musi Riverfront Development Project: With the Telangana government ready to implement the project in Hyderabad, residents along the river are facing possible displacement and uncertainty over compensation. Once seasonal streams, the Moosa and Esi tributaries now flow with sewage and industrial effluents, raising questions about ecological restoration.
