Food poisoning cases at Hotel Bilal in Chennai lead to hospitalizations and police investigations at multiple locations.
Two college students who suffered from food poisoning after eating at Hotel Bilal on Mount Road in Chennai have been admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment and a case has been registered against the restaurant. Six others who ate at another restaurant in Triplicane have also been hospitalised for food poisoning.
In the first incident, six people are undergoing treatment at the Communicable Diseases Hospital in Tondiarpet after suffering from digestive disorders allegedly due to eating food from a restaurant on Anna Salai. The Triplicane police have filed a case against the hotel.
A senior official of the City Police said a group of six persons — V. Vignesh, M. Jaishankar, K. Shyam, K. Vivekanandan, A. Stephen, and S. Rebecca — had gone to Hotel Bilal Biryani, located on Triplicane High Road, on Sunday (March 30, 2025) night for dinner. On Monday (March 31) morning, all six of them experienced vomiting and severe stomach ache, and were treated as outpatients at a private hospital nearby for food poisoning. Later, as the symptoms did not abate, they were rushed to the Communicable Diseases Hospital in Tondiarpet, where they are undergoing treatment.
Based on a complaint filed by the parents of Mr. Vignesh, the Triplicane police have filed a case against the restaurant.
In another incident, the Ice House police have filed a case against Hotel Bilal on Mount Road, Anna Salai, after two college students suffered from food poisoning after they went to the restaurant to have dinner with their family on Sunday night.
The girls, who experienced vomiting and stomach ache, were admitted to the Government Royapettah Hospital on Tuesday (April 1, 2025), and are undergoing treatment.
