Brother-in-law of Coimbatore pastor John Jebaraj arrested for sexual assault on minor girl
The police on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) arrested the brother-in-law of Coimbatore-based pastor John Jebaraj on the charge of sexual assault on a minor girl.
The police said that Bennet Harrish, 32, a resident of Poompuhar Nagar at Thudiyalur, was arrested, based on a statement given by the survivor, aged 17, before a judicial officer.
According to the police, the girl’s statement was recorded by a judicial officer after Jebaraj was arrested from Munnar on April 12. Jebaraj is accused of having sexually assaulted two girls aged 17 and 14 at a party at his residence in Coimbatore on May 21, 2024.
The girl stated that Jebaraj’s brother-in-law Harrish sexually assaulted her a year ago.
The court, based on the statement of the girl, directed the police to initiate legal action against the accused. He was arrested on Wednesday and was produced before the Special Court for POCSO Act cases. The court remanded him in judicial custody, said the police.
