Bangladesh announces housing, financial aid for lynched Hindu man Dipu Das's family
The Bangladesh government has announced housing and financial assistance for the family of Dipu Chandra Das, a young Hindu man who was lynched in Mymensingh district in December last year.
On December 18, 2025, Dipu Chandra Das was beaten and burned to death by a mob in the Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka Upazila. He was allegedly hanged from a tree following accusations of making defamatory comments. The incident was widely reported at the time as a case of communal violence.
Acting on the advice of the Chief Adviser, Education Adviser CR Abrar visited Dipu Das’s family at Mokamiakanda village under Banihala Union in Tarakanda Upazila on December 23, 2025, and conveyed the government’s condolences.
As Dipu Das was the sole breadwinner of his family, the government assured support to ensure their overall security. This includes the construction of a permanent house and financial assistance.
The initiative will be implemented under the supervision of the UNO of Tarakanda Upazila. An allocation of BDT 2.5 million has been approved for house construction through the National Housing Authority. In addition, the government will provide BDT 1 million each to Dipu Das’s father and wife, along with an FDR of BDT 500,000 to secure the future of his child.
Speaking on Tuesday, Dr Abrar said, “The murder of Dipu Chandra Das was a heinous crime, for which there is no excuse, and it has no place in our society. The efforts the government has made to assist his family are nothing compared to a life lost. The state will certainly ensure justice.”

Leon Panetta said Iran war was not an unexpected risk. He pointed out that for years, US security officials have known Iran could disrupt global oil supplies by blocking the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this was a well-known danger, but one that appears to have been overlooked in the current conflict.
