Boosting admissions in government schools through awareness campaigns in Kanniyakumari district involving principals, teachers, and Parent-Teacher Associations to rebuild trust.
:
In an effort to boost the admissions in government and aided schools, various awareness campaigns are being carried out in Kanniyakumari district, with the involvement of principals, teachers and Parent-Teacher Associations.
Over the past few years, the government schools in various parts of the state have seen a steady decline in enrolment, resulting in the unfortunate closure of many schools across the state.
To rebuild the trust and confidence among the parents to admit their children in government schools, the district administration has been rolling out various initiatives. These include spreading awareness about the facilities in government schools, which are equivalent to private sector schools and highlighting the welfare schemes provided by the government for the students in government and aided schools.
In line with the initiative, the Government Primary School in Chenbagaramanputhoor conducted an awareness campaign to enrol the students in government schools.
Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena, took part in the campaign and emphasised that all the government school principals, teachers and Parent-teacher associations have been instructed to actively promote the benefits of government school education and the students welfare schemes implemented by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department.
Addressing the residents of the village during the campaign, Ms. Alagumeena detailed the comprehensive support offered to the students in government schools. These include free textbooks, school bags, uniforms, stationeries, free bus pass, and scholarships provided by various boards such as Adi Dravidar Welfare Board and others. She also noted that students who lost their parents during Covid-19 pandemic are eligible for additional scholarship support from the government.
