YSRCP suffers another setback, loses Vizag Deputy Mayor post in no-trust vote in GVMC Council. Jiyyani Sridhar suffers a drubbing as NDA wins by securing 74 votes. Good days ahead of GVMC, says Anakapalli MP Ramesh, while Bhimili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao says it will become a model corporation under NDA dispensation.
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has suffered another setback in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Council, this time by losing the Deputy Mayor post. It is the YSRCP’s second consecutive drubbing in less than a week following the loss of the Mayor’s post.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the TDP, the JSP, and the BJP, won the no-confidence motion against Deputy Mayor Jiyyani Sridhar on Saturday.
The voting pattern echoed the recent no-trust vote that led to the ousting of G. Hari Venkata Kumari from the Mayor’s post. The NDA secured victory with 74 votes, meeting the required majority. The meeting was overseen by District Collector and in-charge GVMC Commissioner M.N. Harendhira Prasad.
Anakapalli MP C.M. Ramesh, Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat, MLAs Ganta Srinivasa Rao (Bheemunipatnam), P. Vishnu Kumar Raju (North), Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu (East), Vamsi Krishna Srinivas (South), and Konathala Ramakrishna (Anakapalli), and other members attended and voted in the meeting.
As per sources in the NDA, the 74 votes included 16 from JSP (14 corporators and two ex officio members), four from BJP (two corporators and two ex officio members), 53 from TDP (47 corporators and six ex officio members), one vote from others. The YSRCP corporators boycotted the no-trust vote.
After the victory, Mr. Ramesh told reporters that with the NDA at the helm, good days were ahead of the GVMC. “Both Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli will see good development activities,” he said.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao said under the NDA government the GVMC would become a “model corporation” with all amenities.
