A woman was slammed by social media users as she named her pet dog after a virus. Yes, you read that right. An owner named her pet doggo Covid as she had rescued him during the nationwide lockdown, according to the Mirror.
Speaking to Reddit, the woman explained why she named her dog after a pandemic that claimed six million lives worldwide. “We found a stray puppy during the start of our lockdown. It started by feeding him scraps in the back garden where we were spending so much of our time. Now he's moved in and is probably going to stay unless someone comes forward to claim him. We put a notice up in some village shops about him,” she said to the Mirror.
“We called him Covid because that's why we found him, spending all our time at home,” she added.
The woman claimed that she was confronted about the name of her dog by a couple during a walk. “We have now started taking him out for walks, which he loves. But yesterday a couple heard us calling his name while playing by the beach,” she informed.
"They came over and told us that it's insensitive as they lost an uncle to the virus. They said how would we feel if they called their pet cancer or death?” she added further.
The woman is now asking whether Covid is an offensive name or whether the couple overreacted.
“I mean, use practically any other example and it looks really bad really fast,” a user wrote.

Women are treated in the new penal code as being on the same level as "slaves", with provisions allowing either "slave masters" or husbands to administer discretionary punishment, including beatings, to their wives or subordinates. This aspect of the code has drawn particular alarm from rights groups.

Andrew Windsor Mountbatten, who was stripped of his prince title over his links with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, was arrested in the UK on Thursday. Andrew is the grand-nephew of Lord Mountbatten, the last British viceroy in India. Lord Mountbatten was accused of being involved in a child sex ring, involving an orphanage in Belfast. Here's what we know about the Kincora Boys' Home scandal.
