Woman, daughter kill self after cop refuses to file rape case in Andhra’s Eluru, official suspended

A sub-inspector in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district was suspended for abetting the suicide of a woman and her minor daughter. They had approached him to file a case of sexual abuse. But, he refused to do it and insulted them by speaking in a derogatory manner.
A minor girl and her mother committed suicide after a police officer in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district refused to register a rape case. The police officer was suspended for abetting their suicide after the incident was discovered.
The deceased woman had approached Pedavegi police station in AP’s Eluru district on September 12 to lodge a complaint against a youngster who had allegedly sexually assaulted her minor daughter under the pretext of loving her.
The now suspended sub-inspector refused to register the complaint. Further, when the woman questioned him about not taking any action on her complaint, he proceeded to verbally abuse them. He had also warned her to not return to the police station.
Feeling shocked and insulted, the woman and her child mixed insecticide with a cool drink and committed suicide by consuming it the very next day.
Murali Krishna, the uncle of the deceased minor girl, said, “When we went to register a complaint, the SI, without even considering that my sister and her child were women, spoke in a derogatory manner against them and refused to file a complaint. Due to the shock and insult, my sister and her child mixed insecticide with a cool drink and consumed it the very next day. They were found unconscious.”
Following this, sub-inspector Satyanarayana of Pedavegi police station in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district was suspended for abetting the suicide of a minor girl and her mother by not acknowledging their complaint to register a case of sexual assault.
