Delhi Police busted an illegal LPG racket in Sangam Vihar, seizing 183 cylinders and arresting four delivery agents accused of diverting and storing supplies meant for customers.
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted an illegal LPG racket in the Sangam Vihar area, recovering 183 Indane gas cylinders from delivery agents’ godowns, officials said on Wednesday.
According to police, 154 of the seized cylinders were filled while 29 were empty. Four accused — Sher Singh, Suraj Parihar, Raghu Raj Singh and Jitender Sharma — have been arrested.
Investigators said the accused were registered delivery personnel of an authorised gas agency. Instead of delivering cylinders to customers, they allegedly diverted the stock and stored it in rented godowns, operating an illegal storage and refilling network under the guise of legitimate distribution.
A case has been registered under the Essential Commodities Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and further investigation is underway.
The development comes on a day when several Opposition MPs staged a protest inside the Parliament House complex, flagging a reported LPG supply crunch.
Leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, NCP(SP)’s Supriya Sule, Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav, CPI-ML’s Sudama Prasad, DMK’s T Sumathy and JMM’s Mahua Maji gathered near Makar Dwar, holding a banner reading “Empty Cylinders, Empty Promises” and raising slogans against the government.
