Enough energy security, more ships on the way, government assured at all-party meet
The Centre on Wednesday assured political parties that India’s energy security remains intact and additional shipments are on the way, during an all-party meeting held over ongoing Westy Asia tensions that lasted for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
According to sources, the government said there is “enough energy security” in the country and that energy requirements are being adequately met. It added that it has already made advance bookings and is in talks with multiple countries, while also diversifying supply channels to avoid any disruption.
Addressing concerns raised by the Opposition over LPG availability and shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, the government said everything is under control and four ships are set to dock in the next 4–5 days. It also stressed that there is no scarcity and sufficient stocks are available.
The government maintained that it is “on top of geopolitics” and not on the back foot, asserting that there is “nothing to worry” and no need for panic. It said efforts are being made to take everyone on board and that the Opposition can engage with the government at any time.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened the floor for discussion, underlining that people in India need to be taken care of. The Foreign Secretary made a presentation outlining the geopolitical situation, including developments related to Iran, the ongoing conflict, and energy security concerns.
Sources said the broader message from the government was that “things are under control” and domestic concerns will be prioritised above all else.
