The victim, identified as Mukesh Kumar, was undergoing treatment in Noida's ESIC hospital. At the time of the incident, his wife, who was residing at the hospital as primary caregiver, went to the washroom.
A 47-year-old oral cancer patient tragically died by suicide after jumping from the fifth floor of the ESIC Hospital in Sector-24, Noida, on Wednesday. The family levelled allegations of negligence against the authorities, as no doctors or house staff were present to monitor the area when the patient managed to access the window.
The deceased, identified as Mukesh Kumar, a resident of the Bhangel area, had been undergoing treatment at the facility since March 9. The incident occurred while Kumar’s wife, who was staying at the hospital as his primary caregiver, was briefly away from his side in the bathroom. Upon her return to the ward, she found her husband missing, only to discover shortly after that he had opened a window near the stairwell and leapt to the ground.
Witnesses and hospital reports indicate that Kumar died instantly upon impact. Local police were alerted, and they arrived shortly after the incident. The victim’s body was sent for a post-mortem.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was under extreme psychological stress due to his prolonged battle with oral cancer, which is believed to be the primary motivation behind his actions.
The family members are currently demanding a thorough investigation into the patient's lack of supervision. The police are present at the spot and are carrying out necessary legal procedures.
Meanwhile, the hospital has not released any statement yet.
