WHO asks Ukraine to destroy all pathogens in it's labs to avoid a leak or a spill of a pathogen that could worsen the already existent pandemic situation in the world.
With no signs of a ceasefire in sight, the World Health Organisation (WHO) asked Ukraine not to take any chances and destroy all pathogens in it's labs. There are growing fears and concerns that yet another leak of a pathogen could worsen the already existent pandemic situation in the world.
The idea behind destroying all pathogens is to prevent spills that may cause disease or end up serving as a biological weapon in the hands of the Russians.
The threat of biological warfare or the use of chemical weapons is very real. It all started with Russia accusing Ukraine and the United States of America of harboring chemical weapons, a claim endorsed by China.
The White House dismissed the charges, calling it preposterous. White House press secretary Jen Psaki in an address to the media denied all claims made by Russia, calling it 'laughable'.
Instead, the US warned that Russia could itself use these weapons and pin the blame on the former and Ukraine. The world is on tenterhooks given the dangerous manoeuvres at both ends.
The fear doubles given that Russia has in the past been accused of using biological weapons against Putin's arch rivals like Alexei Navalny and also in the Syrian war.
Russia has a track record of using biochemical weapons like nerve agents and it has a stockpile, too.
