Protesters in Poland’s Warsaw covered Ambassador Sergey Andreev’s face with red paint and prevented him from entering a cemetery.
Protesters opposed to the Russia-Ukraine war threw red paint at the Russian Ambassador to Poland and stopped him from paying tribute to soldiers who died during World War II. The Polish government faced criticism for not providing enough security for the diplomat.
Ambassador Sergey Andreev had reached the Soviet soldiers' cemetery in Warsaw to lay flower wreaths to mark the Victory Day. A video clip of Andreev being hit with paint is being widely shared on social media.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the attack on Andreev and said that Russia will not be intimidated by the incident.
“Admirers of the neo-Nazis have once again shown their faces,” Zakharova said, adding that the attack reflected the ‘course for the reincarnation of fascism’.
Victory Day, which commemorates the Soviet Union's win over Nazi Germany in World War II, was celebrated with great pomp with a parade in Moscow's Red Square.
