Veerashaiva, Lingayat communities unite to celebrate Basava Jayanti in Kalaburagi

Basava Jayanti, the 892nd birth anniversary of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara, will be celebrated on a grand scale in Kalaburagi, Basava Jayanti Utsav Samiti president and legislator M.Y. Patil has said.

Addressing presspersons on Saturday, Mr. Patil said that the four-day celebrations include a public meeting, cultural events, special lectures, bike rallies and grand procession in the city.
On April 29, the Utsav Samiti would organise a grand public meeting at Sharanabasaveshwara Jatra maidan. Dakshayini S. Appa, chairperson, Sharnbasaveshwara Vidya Vardhak Sangha, would inaugurate it. Religious heads from mutts across the State and public representatives would be present. Ministers including Priyank Kharge, Sharnbasappa Darshanapur, Sharan Prakash Patil, and legislators representing different constituencies of Kalaburagi district would be chief guests on the occasion. Noted writer S.G. Siddaramaiah would deliver a special lecture on the day.
On April 30, the samiti plans to take out a procession carrying a portrait of Basaveshwara from Nagareshwara School in Nehru Gunj to Basaveshwara Statue at Jagat Circle.
The youth will take out car rally in the city on Sunday and the women’s wing of the samiti would take out a bike rally on Monday.
Akhila Bharat Veerashaiva Mahasabha district president Sharankuar Modi said that the Veerashaivas and Lingayats are unitedly celebrating the Basava Jayanti in Kalaburagi this year.
Mr. Patil clarified that the samiti has decided not to collect funds from the public for the celebrations, but would accept the same if individuals contributed on their own.

The Shakespeare Millennium Club in collaboration with the Annai Velankanni Church (Society of St. Vincent De Paul), conducted a Free Medical Camp on November 23, 2025 at the church premises from 9 am to 6 pm, with Dr. Samundi Sankari and Dr. Divya Sivaraman of Srushti Hospitals, Dr. Sharada L N of Aramba, the Kumaran Dental Clinic, Lychee and Satya Physiotherapy Centre, according to a press release.
