US journalist Danny Fenster sentenced to 11 years in prison by military court in Myanmar

Danny Fenster of Michigan has been detained in Myanmar for more than five months.

A military court in Myanmar has sentenced US journalist Danny Fenster to 11 years in prison for allegedly spreading false and inflammatory information. The court also found Fenster guilty of contacting illegal organisations and violating visa regulations, AP quoted his lawyer Than Zaw Aung as saying.

The development marks another instance of a crackdown on press freedom since the military seized power in Myanmar in February, ousting the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi.
