A UK couple debunked eight long-standing stereotypes about India in a now-viral Instagram video, offering what they described as a clearer look at everyday realities across the country.
Sharing the clip on social media, the couple framed it as a “MYTH vs REALITY India Edition,” directly responding to common assumptions often seen online.
Addressing the perception that “India is dirty and chaotic!” they argued instead that “India is developing rapidly. You’ll find plenty of clean, well-organised areas - even in Delhi. (Pro tip: visit the New Delhi side!)”
They also pushed back on safety concerns frequently raised about travel. Challenging the idea that “It’s too dangerous for solo female travellers,” they said that while the country “can be intense,” it is also “one of the most transformative places you’ll ever visit."
On poverty, the couple pointed out that although hardship existed, it was neither unique to India nor representative of the entire nation. They similarly dismissed viral claims about unhygienic street food, writing, “Don’t believe everything you see on social media for ‘clout.’ No one is cooking with their feet! There is incredible, clean, and delicious street food that you’d be a fool to miss out on.”
Transport stereotypes were another focus. Countering the belief that trains were universally overcrowded, they explained that higher-class bookings could include air conditioning, beds, and hot meals and sometimes feeling “better than a hotel.”

Leon Panetta said Iran war was not an unexpected risk. He pointed out that for years, US security officials have known Iran could disrupt global oil supplies by blocking the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this was a well-known danger, but one that appears to have been overlooked in the current conflict.
