Trapped in a school in Afghanistan, teacher recalls experience with Taliban upon return to Bengal

A resident of West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, Tamal Bhattacharaya, was reunited with his family on Sunday. He was working as a school teacher in Kabul when Taliban took control of Afghanistan.

Among the hundreds of Indian citizens evacuated from Afghanistan since the Taliban takeover is Tamal Bhattacharya. A resident of Nimta in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, Bhattacharya worked as a school teacher at the Kardan International School in Kabul for five months. Tamal and an Indian colleague had resigned from the school a day before Kabul fell to the Taliban. The two Indians later bought return tickets to India which were cancelled owing to chaos at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.
