Bengaluru's towing operations may face delays despite the Commissioner's directive, owing to pending administrative work and finalising fines.
Pommala Sunil Kumar, Commissioner of the Bengaluru North City Corporation, on Thursday (March 12, 2026) directed the traffic police to begin towing operations within their jurisdiction, though the move is likely to face delays.
Mr. Kumar said that towing could begin on Monday (March 16, 2026) as the vehicles had been procured. However, according to traffic police sources, some administrative work is still pending, which may take about a week.
About 10 vehicles have been procured so far by four corporations, while the West Corporation is yet to get any. According to sources in the West Corporation, tenders have been called for 10 vehicles, one for each constituency, and the vehicles will be obtained soon.
Meanwhile, the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) are finalising the fine and challan system. A BTP source explained that the new towing model is being implemented jointly by the corporations and the BTP.
“For the violation, a fine will be collected by the police as per the prescribed rules. Further, towing charges will be levied, which will go to the corporation. This rule has to be notified and is currently in process. It may take about a week to finalise, after which towing operations can begin,” the officer said.
