To kill H-1B programme by 2027, US lawmaker introduces bill

A bill is being introduced to end the H-1B visa programme in the US. The EXILE Act, which was brought by Florida Representative and Republican Greg Steube, if passed, will end the H-1B programme in 2027. Steube's bill comes after a similar bill was introduced by Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Greg Steube, a US Representative and a member of the Republican Party, introduced a legislation on Monday (US time) aimed squarely at eliminating the H-1B visa programme. The proposal, which is titled the Ending Exploitative Imported Labour Exemptions (EXILE) Act, seeks to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to end the visa programme.
Steube is a Republican Lawmaker who has been representing Florida's 17th congressional district since 2019. He aims to end the H-1B visa programme, which is a US work visa that allows American employers to hire highly specialised foreign professionals to fill skill gaps and help American industries in sectors like technology remain competitive with the rest of the world.
He follows in the footsteps of former US Representative and fellow Republican, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who, prior to resigning from her Georgia 14th Congressional District, had proposed a bill titled, End H-1B Now Act. Like Steube, Grenne's bill aimed to end the H-1B programme and only allow a temporary exemption for 10,000 medical professionals over a period of 10 years.
He announced the action via a post on X, writing: "Today I am filing legislation to end the H-1B visa programme." He argued that, "American workers have been ripped off by the corrupt H-1B visa program for far too long. Corporations have repeatedly abused this system to help their bottom line by importing cheaper foreign labor, which has suppressed wages and left millions of Americans locked out of good-paying jobs."
According to a press release released by Steube's office, the EXILE Act aims to address concerns over "prioritising foreign labour over the well-being and prosperity of American citizens undermines our values and national interests."
Steube's office stated that the EXILE Act would amend Section 214(g)(1)(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act that would eliminate the H-1B programme.

Leon Panetta said Iran war was not an unexpected risk. He pointed out that for years, US security officials have known Iran could disrupt global oil supplies by blocking the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, this was a well-known danger, but one that appears to have been overlooked in the current conflict.
