Sri Lankan President revokes emergency with effect from April 5 midnight

Sri Lankan President said in a Gazette notification that the emergency rule in the country will be revoked with effect from midnight of April 5.
Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa announced on Tuesday night that he is revoking the emergency rule with effect from midnight of April 5. Sri Lanka has been under emergency rule since April 1 after nationwide protests erupted over the country’s economic crisis.
Sri Lanka is currently facing its worst economic crisis since its independence. Protests erupted all over the country and went on despite the President imposing emergency rule and a nationwide curfew.
Prices went up as high as Rs 220 per kg for rice and Rs 1900 for 1 kg pack of milk powder.
On Tuesday, the entire cabinet resigned and the ruling party lost its majority in Parliament.
