Shrikanth Mangalwedhe, veteran journalist and educator, passed away at 82 in Pune, leaving behind a legacy of truth-telling.
Veteran journalist and educator Shrikanth Mangalwedhe (82) passed away following age-related illness in Pune on Monday (May 27, 2025).
He was a government school teacher. He joined The Hindu as a correspondent in Belagavi in 1979. He later became staff correspondent and retired in 2000. He reported widely about the language agitation and other prominent developments from Belagavi district.
Following his retirement, he stayed for a while in Dharwad before moving to his son’s house in Pune, Maharashtra. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
“He was a journalist with a deep commitment to the craft,” said Subhash Kulkarni, senior journalist. “He never wavered from his objective of truth-telling. His copies revealed his in-depth study of various subjects. He used to give tips to young journalists about various issues not only in Belagavi, but also the region,” Mr. Kulkarni added.
