Sivaganga district promotes green cover with sapling planting drive led by Principal District and Sessions Judge K. Arivoli.
As part of the sapling planting drive in Sivaganga district, Principal District and Sessions Judge K. Arivoli on Friday planted saplings on the premises of the Purasadai Udaippu open prison in the district and the sub-jails in Tirupattur and Sivaganga.
As part of the programme, Sivaganga District Legal Services Authority also donated books to the prison library. Earlier, in order to increase the green cover in the district, an ‘Eco Friendly Atmosphere’ project was launched by the Sivaganga District Legal Services Authority on the district court campus premises in Sivaganga.
The project was being implemented under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority. Over 1,000 saplings will be grown and maintained for about nine months at the nursery established on the court campus premises. The main objective of the project was to increase the green cover and handle the changing climatic conditions effectively, the officials said.
Varieties of saplings will be grown and maintained in the nursery for about nine months. After the said period, the saplings will be planted in various places including court campus, parks, roadsides and other public utility areas wherever it is feasible, the officials said, adding that Judiciary, Revenue, Forest and other Departments were jointly implementing the ‘Eco Friendly Atmosphere project’.
