Sanjay Dutt turns 63: Looking back at the actor who made badassery loveable
India Today
Sanjay Dutt is a badass villain! On his 63rd birthday, we bring to you, some of his most badass villainous avatars that made us shudder with his screen presence.
That shaved head. No eyebrows. Evil smile. And that roaring voice. Admit it or not, Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena is one of the scariest villains in the history of Bollywood. More than any ghost, we would shudder at the grim monotone around Mandwa, every time Kancha hatched an evil plan. Sanjay made his foray into the industry as a hero but of late, has gone on to become a glorious villain. On his 63rd birthday, we are looking back at some of his most iconic characters and how only Sanjay can make badassery look this spectacular.
Khal Nayak
Sanjay Dutt first played a villain in 1993 film Khal Nayak. We loved his rowdy version who ran miles to escape the police. Villains don’t necessarily have our empathy, but Sanjay as Rakesh Prasad/Ballu, did. Deep down, we sincerely hoped something saved him and he didn’t get caught. And that dialogue ‘Zindagi ke har natak mein ek hota hain Nayak, aur ek hota hain Khal nayak- simply the best!
Vaastav
That tilak, golden chain, open buttons - Sanjay Dutt as gangster Raghunath Namdev became a rage. His look in the film not only went on to become a trend, but the film also saw Sanjay evolve as an actor. Years after its release, we still can’t get over his pachaas tola dialogue!
Kancha Cheena
Sanjay shaved his head and eyebrows to perfect his role as Kancha Cheena in Agneepath. While Hrithik Roshan was brilliant as Vijay, Kancha Cheena had our heart. His magnetic personality, that evil smirk, the way he dragged Vijay to the tree, everything made us fall in love with Sanjay- the actor. This one has to be one of his most iconic avatars.
